It's the last hour of the last day of November, so I figure-- never better a time to catch up 11 months on the blog! I've actually been working on these updates for awhile, but was regrettably (totally distracted/insanely tired) unable to finish any to completion... until now. I have to say that it's been fun to go back and look at pics and see what was going on that particular month. I'm still hopeful that I can get back to my monthly (on-time) updates, since this is the only way I am ever going to remember what was going on in our lives. Lord knows I can already barely remember what we did yesterday! So here goes.
JANUARY 2017
Something kind of crazy happened this past January... we got a dog. Those that know me well were pretty shocked, and honestly, so was I. The short story is there was a sweet family I met with little boys who have major allergy problems and were needing to rehome this pup. We had been casually talking about getting a dog that might be a good companion for Avery, and Maddie had been begging for a dog for ages. She promised that she would help take care of it. (insert eye roll) She was relentless!
Enter DIXIE, the most darling little Westie you have ever seen.
Dixie made herself at home pretty fast in our household. She loved to relax with Avery on the couch, get tummy rubs and play chase with Maddie, and sunbathe in the window light.
She was very quiet (at first--ha), well-behaved, great with the girls and super affectionate. Everyone, including the hub, was excited for our new doggie addition.
And talking about additions, I was 7 months pregnant with our baby bubba last January. Perfect time to add a dog to the family, right?? I was having issues with reflux from the baby pushing everything around, and feeling constantly icky. I was also insanely tired and napping at every opportunity! Poor Bub the hub.
Most importantly, we celebrated Avery's NINTH Birthday in January. We had a small family party and I think she enjoyed herself.
This was her first bite of real cake in a long time. She's been on the low sugar/low carb diet for years now to help control seizures. It was a small piece but she was quite pleased.
She got lots of lovely presents!
Right before Avery's birthday, I had gone on a last minute trip to visit my dear friend Sarah in the Netherlands. I took maybe 3 photos during the whirlwind trip but was very glad I went, and appreciated catching up with two of my favorite sorority sisters. Here is a very cold Laurie and I on the beautiful cobblestone streets of The Hague. Look at that baby bubba bump hiding under that big coat!
Other January notables include an adorable and rare photo of both of the girls looking and smiling toward the camera.

I also have to mention that we were still in the midst of our master bed/bath addition house construction that was going on its 7th month, with seemingly no end in sight. The work crew had just finally started on the opening and doorway to the new addition from our living room.
And last but not least, I have random pic evidence that Maddie was still wearing her glasses on and off. They are more of an accessory to her then anything else, and she sees perfectly well without them, so I don't really push.
January is a wrap!
